When Did I Get So Soft?14 Dec

I recently attended a conference on health and wellness where one of the presenters asked, “when was the last time you really challenged yourself?”  You know, something that if you truly committed to would make you feel uneasy because it’s hard or even potentially risky and/or scary.  Many of us, including myself,  have had these experiences in the past, but I have to admit, because life has been easier in many ways compared to ten years ago, I don’t tend to take risks or challenge myself like I used to.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

To make a long story short, I was inspired to do something hard to get that feeling back; that “eye of the tiger” thing.  We don’t have to wait until life is difficult and our backs are against the wall to prove we can accomplish hard tasks.  We have the opportunity everyday to prove how awesome our mind over matter powers truly are, and to reap the reward of that juicy feeling of hard accomplishment and challenge.

We are all inspired by that friend who gave up coffee, or decided to learn another language or instrument.   Everyone likes to hear the story of how the person who quit their high paying job to do something they love for less pay, etc.  In that spirit I have decided to give up television for one year, with the exception of one sports game per month as a treat.  I don’t watch an overwhelming amount of television anyway, but it is still hard and I’m going to prove to myself and inspire others that it’s possible.

What are you doing in 2010 to clear up your mental clutter, to add more time for you and the things that make your juice JUICIER!  Feel free to email me at drmckinley@mckinleychiro.com to have an accountability partner.  Once others know your commitment, the inspiration is viral!  Commit Today!
